Oshi No Ko manga author Aka Akasaka is under scrutiny after he miscounted the extra pages included in Volume 16 of his hit manga series.
Taking to X, Akasaka stated that the volume would contain 18 bonus pages, only to be publicly corrected by his collaborator, artist Mengo Yokoyari, who clarified that the correct count was 24.
The post from Akasaka, which acknowledged the conclusion of Oshi No Ko in the magazine and encouraged readers to follow the final volume for additional content, quickly became the subject of fan criticism.
Many readers expressed frustration over Akasaka’s apparent disconnect from his own work, interpreting the page count error as a sign of waning enthusiasm.
Fans voiced concerns about his lack of attention to detail and speculated that he may already be focusing on his newly announced project.
Readers lamented Akasaka’s perceived lack of commitment to the series and instead praised Yokoyari, who illustrated the 24-page bonus.
Some also expressed sympathy for the illustrator, while questioning Akasaka’s sincerity towards his readers and the commitment to providing a satisfying conclusion for the beloved series.
The reaction on social media reflected broader dissatisfaction that fans had with the ending of Oshi No Ko. The ending was critiqued widely for leaving loose ends and failing to give closure to certain characters.
This sentiment was compounded by Akasaka’s previous statement that Oshi No Ko would diverge from his earlier work, Kaguya-sama: Love is War, and that not all characters would receive a traditional resolution.
Though Akasaka is working on a new series, illustrator Yokoyari noted in a separate post on X that she will be relaxing for a while now that Oshi No Ko‘s serialization was complete.
“I really wanted to focus on pushing through to the very end, so I haven’t decided anything about the next series! Even when people asked or brought it up during the process, I deliberately postponed answering, haha I’m completely blank now—
I’m excited, but for a while, I’m going to work hard at just relaxing.
(Though I still have a few things left to wrap up 🤤)
(The work on the tankobon is complete!)“
Oshi No Ko manga has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump since April 2020, with its chapters collected in 15 tankobon volumes as of July 2024. It has been licensed for release in North America by Yen Press and is simultaneously published by Shueisha on their Manga Plus platform.

A second 13-episode season aired from July to October 2024. A third season has been announced.
