Denji chainsaw man anime

Chainsaw Man chapter 171 featured the return of the Chainsaw Devil as Pochita took control of Denji’s body. While that certainly was the highlight of the chapter, the fans have pointed out a small discrepancy in the English version of the chapter, as compared to the Japanese one.

In the Japanese version of the chapter (page 7) there is a panel of Denji’s chord being pulled before he transforms into the Chainsaw Devil.

However, in the English version of the chapter uploaded on Manga Plus and Viz Media’s Shonen Jump app, this panel is replaced by Asa’s face.

Check out the panels below:

Discrepancy in Chainsaw Man chapter 171
Left: Japanese version; Right: English version

While the reason for the change is not known, some are speculating that English version might be based on an older version of the chapter. Whereas the one on the Japanese sites could be an updated version.

However, an interesting point to note is that none of the panels before or after this particular one show Denji’s chord. So it definitely looks like a last minute addition by Fujimoto.

Even so, it is an interesting addition, and a callback to part 1 where Denji was shown pulling his chord in a similar catatonic state.

Though it probably seems that this discrepancy won’t have any major impact on the storyline going forward; it is still eagerly being discussed on social media platforms and forums.
